Surfer’s Corner in Muizenberg is host to this year’s Cape Town Surf Pro. It’s considered the birthplace of surfing in South Africa and is one of the best beginner beaches in the world.

Sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, the competition aims to uplift and develop local athletes and provide amateur surfers with opportunities to compete on the international surf stage. 

Having paddled out on 14 April at Surfer’s Corner for two rounds of heats, the Cape Town Surf Pro sees over 100 junior surfers competing to ride out the best waves and perform their finest manoeuvres in the U12 – U18 boys and girls divisions.

‘The Cape Town Surf Pro is an important platform for junior surfers to gain the necessary skills and exposure required to compete on the professional circuit. The City is proud to be a part of this exciting event, and we extend a warm welcome to all the competitors and spectators visiting our shores over the weekend. This event provides an opportunity to showcase the City’s scenic coastlines and the unique experiences Cape Town has to offer visitors. It’s also hosted at one of the City’s most famous surf spots which promotes the vibrant surf culture and boosts the local economy,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.  

Surfing, by its nature, advocates for ocean sustainability and responsible tourism. The Cape Town Surf Pro will host daily beach clean ups to encourage community involvement for a cleaner and greener environment.
